What you’re looking at here is being touted as the world’s safest baby seat, and you won’t doubt the claim once you know who is behind its creation. Called BabyArk, the cutting-edge baby car seat has been designed by legendary designer Frank Stephenson. In case you don’t know who he is, the Moroccan-born American designer is responsible for designing some of the coolest automotive creations, including the McLaren P1, Ferrari F430, Maserati MC12, and many more. According to Stephenson, safety regulations for baby car seats have not been updated since 2000. As a result, most of the products available in the market that meet those standards aren’t as safe. This is what motivated him to design an advanced seat that can offer the best protection to the most vulnerable passengers.

The BabyArk was first revealed more than 3 years ago and was originally scheduled to go on sale in 2021. To reinvent the baby car seat, Stephenson collaborated with an Israel-based defense contractor which is made of high-tech materials. The frame is made out of carbon fiber, while the base features energy-absorbing steel coils that extend in an impact to slow the seat’s forward momentum. Furthermore, the side-impact protection is said to be inspired by a woodpecker’s plate-like bones, while the headrest is made using anti-shock polymer D30.
Beyond the cutting-edge materials used in the construction, the BabyArk is also one of the most technically advanced baby seats money can buy. Its electronic suite is made of 14 sensors to measure the force of an impact, including accelerometers and gyroscopes. In the event of a crash, it can tell the owner if the seat is safe to be used. Additionally, it can warn the owner if the seat is not properly installed via an accompanying smartphone app. Stephenson says the BabyArk went through over 200 crash tests. The seat can accommodate kids up to 49 inches tall and between 4 and 65 pounds in weight. As for the pricing, the BabyArk can be currently pre-ordered for $990 with deliveries beginning May 31. It includes a complimentary maintenance service check 10 years after purchasing the product.
