A rose by any other name is still a rose. But a lotus by any other name will forever be known as The Chopard Imperiale. Unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2023, Chopard’s latest haute joaillerie Imperiale focuses all its beauty on the dial flaunting the holy flower motif. Chopard pays tribute to an Egyptian legend using the lotus flower- the sun rises once the petals have opened at dawn before setting as the flower closes in darkness. The cynosure of the timepiece is the lotus divided into a skeletonized top half made of 18k gold and a lower half loaded with texture.
The flower sits on a mother-of-pearl disk, looking resplendent with a blue gradient reminiscent of clouds in the daytime and a serene night sky. The delicate five-pointed star made of powdered gold denotes the night side effortlessly. Adding a dash of color to the Chopard canvas is a well-chosen spectrum of blue sapphires and diamonds adorning the dial’s perimeter. The 18k rose-gold, 36mm case boasts an array of sparkling diamonds, interrupted only by a charming sapphire cabochon set crown.
The movement can be admired through the sapphire display caseback. Watch enthusiasts will marvel over the in-house manufacture Chopard 96.30-L decorated with Geneva stripes and perlage. Unmatched artistry is combined with expert finishing and a micro-rotor for automatic winding.
With an impressive power reserve of 65 hours, the watch is technically fantastic and visually magical, justifying the mammoth $90,700 price tag. Seamless blue alligator leather with ethical 18k rose-gold pin buckle seals the beauty on the wrist of a loved one.
